A 3D role-playing game set in the desert region of Orre. Unlike traditional titles in the franchise, it features no wild Pokémon encounters and introduces a darker narrative centered around “Shadow Pokémon”—creatures whose hearts have been artificially closed by a criminal group known as Team Cipher. Players control Wes, a former member of Team Snagem, who defects from the organization after stealing their Snag Machine, a device used to capture Shadow Pokémon from other Trainers. Alongside Rui, a character who can detect Shadow Pokémon, Wes battles through various towns including Phenac City, Pyrite Town, Agate Village, and The Under, uncovering Cipher’s operations and facing off against its key admins: Miror B., Dakim, Venus, and Ein. The story culminates at Realgam Tower, where Cipher's true leader, Evice (disguised as Mayor Es Cade), is revealed and ultimately defeated. Featuring double battles as the primary battle format and a storyline-driven progression, Pokémon Colosseum delivers a unique, console-focused take on the franchise with a more mature tone and strategy-heavy gameplay.
