An 8-bit handheld gaming console developed by Nintendo. Released in Japan on October 21, 1998, and shortly after in North America and Europe, it succeeded the original Game Boy and was later replaced by the Game Boy Advance. The GBC is slightly taller and thicker than the Game Boy Pocket and, as the name suggests, its main feature is the color screen. The GBC could display up to 56 different colors simultaneously on screen from its palette of 32,768 and had 32 KB of RAM. It also featured an infrared communications port.
