A professional wrestling video game built on the same mechanics found in earlier entries in the series, where players can strike or grapple with opponents and combine directional inputs with button presses to perform different attacks and holds. The momentum-based "Attitude" system returns, allowing players to build up a meter through offensive actions, with higher momentum increasing the likelihood of successful pinfalls and submissions and a full meter enabling the execution of a character's finishing maneuver. Players can unlock additional characters, arenas, moves, and costumes for the create-a-wrestler mode through the "Smackdown Mall," an in-game store where currency is earned through gameplay. Currency can be accumulated in the new Championship Mode, a single-player mode with seven selectable story paths tied to different championship titles, each featuring branching outcomes based on match results and in-story decisions, as well as in a survival mode where players attempt to defeat a string of opponents without being defeated.
