An action-adventure game with puzzle elements. The player controls Tepeu, a young thief, while issuing commands to Teotl, a powerful mystical beast operated by the game's A.I. The story follows Tepeu as he travels through a kingdom consumed by an encroaching Darkness to free Teotl and restore the land. Gameplay alternates between direct control of Tepeu in stealth and exploration segments and command-based interaction with Teotl during combat and puzzle sequences. As progression continues, Teotl acquires additional abilities, such as the generation of electricity, which are applied to both combat encounters and environmental puzzles. The design emphasizes the contrast between the two characters, with Tepeu relying on stealth and agility in areas where Teotl's raw strength would be impractical.
